The MLP (Multi-Language Publications) Tokyo office is made up of about 15 volunteer members of Aganai Lutheran Church in Tokyo. We work with Pastor Wordell who is the coordinator for MLP publications in about 8 countries. We gather almost every week to help support the publication of good, Lutheran materials in Japanese. We are not professional translators, but for the purpose of evangelism are learning and working together.
Pastor Wordell comments, “In the Bible it says that the church (believers in Jesus) is like the human body. It has many various members, but together they form one body and work together. We can say the same about our publications work. On our team, some people are good at English. Some are good at Japanese. Some people are good at computers, and some people are good at making illustrations. Besides translating and proofreading, we also need people who can help with printing, promotion, and distribution. We consider it a privilege to be working together to tell others about the Lord and His Word, the Bible.”
Multi Language Publications has a pamphlet called The Promise. This book is a short summary of what the Bible teaches. We produced this book in Japanese to help people understanding the overall meaning of the Bible. The Bible records God’s will for our lives, but the Bible is not mostly a book of rules to be followed. More than that, the Bible is a book of promises to be believed–God’s promises!
MLP also has a series of books called The Bible Teaching Series. These books can be studied by correspondence. Each book teaches one topic from the Bible, usually in 4 or 5 chapters. Each book can be studied in about 6 hours, and each chapter includes review questions and a chapter test. If you finish the whole book, you can send us the final test and receive a certificate of completion. We hope that many people in Japan will study the Bible in this way.
We have many favorite Bible passages, but here is one of them: “From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised” (Psalm 113:3). It is our prayer that our publications will help people to know and praise the Lord, in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
