Church Year and Hymns
Even though Christians have the freedom to worship on any day of the week, Christians in the New Testament have often chosen to worship on Sunday. Jesus Christ rose from the dead on a Sunday. The events of Pentecost (outpouring of the Holy Spirit 50 days after Easter) also happened on a Sunday.
Many Christians also follow the Church Year. Again, this is not something the Bible commands us to do. The Christian church in the New Testament has found this to be an excellent way to review the teachings of the Bible every year.
Just as the calendar year has different seasons, so also the Christian Church year has different seasons. To introduce those seasons to you, we have written a short description, chosen one Bible verse, and recorded one Christian hymn.
Truly it is a blessing to gather with other believers to hear God’s Word and take it to heart. It says in the Bible, “I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord’” (Psalm 122:1). In the same way, we welcome visitors who want to join us in worship!
